Designer Interview: Irmak Su Güçlü**

Irmak Su Guclu founded her eponymous luxury women’s ready-to-wear fashion label in 2021. The brand was born out of the desire to make women feel sophisticated, beautiful and powerful, with timeless garments that are impeccably tailored. A vision of modern luxury characterized her ready-to-wear collection. The brand’s DNA consists of cocktail and evening dresses created with multi-piece and removable pieces. Uncompromising in using only the finest, most luxurious materials, Istanbul-based and designed in New York City, the expert craftsmanship in every piece is evident from the precise cut to the meticulous finishing. ISG pieces are unique, and committed to women who demand lasting value in their products.

When and where did you first begin?

I have always felt a desire for being creative. But, the first time I was introduced to fashion design was in 2012 in New York when I was in High School since then I have a great passion about it. It was like an obsession I hadn’t experienced before. And, I started my brand in 2021.

Where does your design inspiration come from?

Cities inspires me the most. Then art, and then women.. My last collection ‘‘The Silverstate’’ was inspired by the showgirls in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Describe your brand in 3 words.

Modern, dynamic and feminine.

What is the most difficult aspect of running your own label?

The most difficult aspect is the fashion industry is the most polluting industry on this planet. And the biggest challenge is maintaining sustainability. For a young brand it is sometimes challenging to get the contacts and reach the minimums to access sustainable qualities. I believe it is a work in progress and each season we are getting a step closer to a fully sustainable sourcing.

Which part of the creative process do you enjoy most, and least?

I enjoy work a lot hands on. I like to test different techniques and constructions.  But birthing a team, manufacturing, separate from the collection is the most challenging part.

 Do you have a mentor?

No, never had one. You have to move on within your own space, and that’s where the challenge is.

How long did your latest collection take to create?

I am a perfectionist so; my collections take little long time. My last collection took approximately 7-8 months.

What are your future plans?

I want to be a part of the transformation of the fashion industry to a more sustainable one, and to be my own fashion house.

Which pieces do you think everyone should have in their wardrobe?

A mini satin black dress, and an oversize blazer.

What attracted you to The Clothing Lounge

My PR team let me know about The Clothing Lounge. And, I loved TCL and your values of sustainability.

Describe your brand in 3 words.
