Socks From NY
Pan & The Dream socks are handmade directly from New York using great attention to detail and only the highest quality European fabrics. As any artisanal product every sock is original in it's own way, which means that nobody else will ever own the same pair.
“As a stylist, I have often found it only needed that small touch to make a big difference."
TCL: Where can we find the origins of this brand?
P: Like many things, necessity is the mother of invention. It all started with the need for some sheer tulle lingerie for a special styling project and I couldn’t find it. I designed it, had it made and wanted socks to match so I made those too. I couldn’t post the lingerie on Instagram because it was completely nude but when I posted the socks I received so many requests for them. So I decided to keep making them.
TCL: What inspired you to create a sock line?
P: I thought doing socks was somewhat accidental but friends reminded me of some styling work I had done many years ago and also more recent work where I used socks, stockings and tights a lot! I guess it’s some kind of obsession I wasn’t conscious of before! Socks are a great way to give an outfit a new twist. As a stylist, I have often found it only needed that small touch to make a big difference.
TCL: How does your brand distinguish itself from others?
P: I am not sure how different it is to other brands, we are still relatively new and only at the start of many possibilities. We work from a small atelier and handle all aspects of the work required to get the socks from the plain fabric to having them packed and shipped.
We try our hardest to be as ecological as possible. Our aim is not to waste resources, we use very high end quality materials to ensure the socks have longevity. Being an online business, a lot of material goes into shipping, everything we use is post consumer recycled material and it does look good! We don’t work under the pressures of dates and collections, but use new colts or new styles when it feels right. We prefer to be timeless and occasionally work with our clients to customise a style or use a certain colour for their wishes. We give the garment our signature look but fulfil their needs and wishes at the same time.
“Accessories can really make or break an outfit. ”
TCL: How could you explain to our readers the importance of wearing a good accessory to get a perfect outfit?
P: Accessories can really make or break an outfit. You can wear something very simple, even just your favourite pair of jeans and a white T- shirt and give yourself a new look just with adding different accessories. Sometimes expensive and timeless accessories can really elevate your look, but it doesn’t always have to be pricey, at times, all you need is a little pop of colour to modernise and energise a classic garment.
TCL: Who or what is your inspiration to make such special socks?
The socks are inspired by vintage
stockings. The really old ones, which had no stretch in them and often had an ill fitting look. The socks are like these stockings cut off and left to drop wrinkled at the ankle. They have a very casual chic
TCL: What does the future look like for Pan & The Dream? Do you have any projects about opening a shop?
P: I have always dreamed of opening a little shop and would love to do this one day but for now this is still just a dream. For now, we will be developing new styles and strive to create the best product we can.
