54KIBO: CELEBRATING AFRICAN HOME DESIGN

We often hear about Scandinavian home design or about the latest trends in home interior design, but we rarely hear about African home designers.

Nana Quagraine, the founder of 54kibo, an online retailer curating luxury and modern home design items from African designers, came to the same conclusion. That’s why she launched the online store in 2018.

54kibo is named after the highest summit of the tallest peak in Africa, Kibo, on Mount Kilimanjaro. It also represents the 54 diverse countries that make up Africa.

54kibo is a beautiful celebration of African design, and was created out of the desire to share the history of African design’s influence with customers and home interior design lovers:  ‘54kibo ignites story sharing and cements the power of cultural knowledge that is so important as we raise new generations around the globe,’ says the owner, Nana.

Quagraine was born in Ghana, raised in South Africa and lives in Brooklyn. She added “Much of mainstream music, art, architecture, fashion, and design draw directly from Africa's culture. The story of Africas design influence should be more accessible and 54kibo aims to bring the new takes by contemporary African designers to a broader market of consumers.”

Consumers can choose from a wide array of home interior items, ranging from wall prints, cushion and throw to dinnerware. These pieces are handmade and one-of-a-kind, and are made with quality materials and great craftsmanship.
